Ashtanga Yoga

Foundation courses in Ashtanga Yoga on Fridays and Saturdays - check the timetable or contact Siobhan for availablility. The courses will run in 6 week blocks, each block covering the fundamental elements and poses of Ashtanga Yoga. During the course we will look at the introductory physical postures (asanas) in some detail, ensuring they are practised correctly. Also introducing you to different breathing techniques and vinyasas (breath-synchronised movement) essential to the practise of Ashtanga. The course will cover Bandhas (internal energetic ‘locks’) and the Drishtis(gazing points) both vital components of the practise.

Some of the background and history of this system of yoga (as taught by Sri K Pattabhi Jois and Sharath in Mysore) will be covered. There will always be time to focus on individual questions and problems that students may want to address.

Completion of the 6 weeks will provide you with a strong foundation for your practise and will leave you feeling confident to join in any level 1 led class or a Mysore class. The course is suitable for complete beginners to ashtanga as well as students who have been to led classes but wish to ‘go back to basics’ and study the essential components in more detail.
